Math Summer Institute 2024 held in Puerto Princesa

The Department of Mathematics of the UA&P School of Sciences and Engineering, in partnership with DepEd Palawan and with financial support from the Assisi Development Foundation Inc. (ADFI) and the Provincial Government of Palawan (PGP), conducted the Math Summer Institute (MSI) 2024 last September 26-28, 2024 at Bambu Suites, BM Road, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.

MSI is an annual extension project of the Department that primarily aims to address the needs of public school math teachers, in terms of their knowledge and skills, in effectively teaching their subjects. This year’s MSI, entitled “Division Training on Upskilling and Reskilling of Junior and Senior High School Teachers’ Knowledge and Skills on Mathematical Content and Pedagogy,” covered topics in General Mathematics, Precalculus, Statistics and Probability, and Calculus, which were given by Dr. Noemi Barcial-Torre, Dr. Eva Rodriguez, Dr. Maria Veronica Quilinguin, Ms. Kimberly May Vallesteros and Mr. Rey Vincenzo Cruz.

Through the help of Ms. Astrid Agbanlog, the Education Program Supervisor for Math of the Schools Division Office of DepEd Palawan, a total of 51 junior and senior high public school math teachers from different municipalities of Palawan were able to attend the 3-day training. The Math Department, with the goal of bringing closer the training to teachers who have less access to it, is working to continue this partnership with DepEd Palawan and ADFI for greater project impact.
